North Inner City Drugs Task Force

The North West Inner City Network (NWICN) is an independent member-based forum of Community and Voluntary Groups in the North West Inner City of Dublin. Established in 1997 by a group of local community activists, people living and working in the area, the Network seeks to ensure that the community has an active say in how their community is developed. It has a particular remit in relation to social inclusion.

Based in 117 – 119 North King Street, Dublin 7, we work with local residents, community projects, services and statutory agencies. We are one of the three Community Networks currently core-funded by Pobal and we receive part-funding from the North Inner City Local Drugs Task Force.

Community Participation Project: Promoting social inclusion
The aim of the Community Participation Project is to support local people to get involved in the actions and decisions which affect our community. We are supported by NWICN Drugs Working Group, and facililate the involvement of the community in local decision making structures to enable them to participate in all key decisions that will affect their lives. This is achieved by providing information and support to become involved in policy process and training in key areas of Drugs, Health, Education, Housing, Justice and Environment.

NWICN represent the community on Local Drugs Task Force. We raise issues from NWICN Drugs Working Group (DWG) and local drug services, have raised & identified gaps and barriers to recovery for service users and their families, and have produced and dissemminated publications “Directory of Local Drug Services” and “Health Needs Assessment” for the Grangegorman area. In response to demand, we hosted two information sessions on “Head Shop” products for local projects, HSE, DCC, Homeless Services, schools and local community. We were part of delegation which met with Minister with responsibility for Drugs in order to highlight the growing needs in relation to tackling drug misuse and supply in the area.
